Of course everything is too good to be true….
January 28th, 2009 | Barrack Obama Blogging | No Comments »There’s pork in Obama’s political package!? Of course there is. Let’s not expect the entire world of his administration coming off such a sludge fest as we just did. Already I am hearing the comments that President Obama is obviously too good to be true. Isn’t it our ignoring of the too good to be true feeling that put us where we are anyway? Didn’t we just blatently let our government and financial advisors to the free markets comfort our sinking feeling with false hope?
A perfect metaphor of this happened tonight with a friend and I going out to dinner at Foreign Cinema because it is Dine about Town here in San Francisco. The deal is 34.95 for a 3-course meal at countless reputable restaurants in the city which of course appears to be just too good to be true. Here the advertisers lead me to believe that I would be enjoying the same experience I would of the restaurant at a cheap price! Unfortunately this initial comfort causes me to purchase a drink and ask for bread which both are later revealed to be priced high enough to make up for the food discount at the very least. We both quickly realized the offer had made us spend out of our buying power bracket. My initial reaction was to immediately start to dissect the meal and decry its morsels of weakness. I think it was the movie playing on the wall that caused me to reflect upon the moment and realize what really had happened. If it wasnt for the too good to be true offer in the first place, my friend and I would not have probably made it out to this place we wanted to come to so badly and order a full 3-course meal with a drink (or 2 now that I recall) and had such a wonderful evening. You can’t enjoy life if you don’t take risks. You can’t live the American Dream if you don’t take risks.
It is exactly this falling for the too good to be true feeling that American needs to fearlessly embrace again. Clearly we must weigh the weight of our risks with much more scrutiny that we did before dining out but the idea is the same. We must all reach back up for the American dream that is idolized and admired by countries and people all ovcr the globe. This young, beautiful, powerful country was created by people that completely believed the hype and made all the good true.
I am glad to see President Obama is bringing the full menu to everyone at the table so that we at least get to see all the hidden fees up front. We all knew they were going to be there but you don’t think about them as much when you don’t see them. I think we all end up being happy customers when we see what we are paying for. Especially if its good food…..or good bailouts. Pick your fancy.
(a bailout pie according to googlesearch)
(the exact pie I ate tonight except only 2 brandied cherries and that cream blob was humping the cake)
